UK : Death of the cheque nears

The death of the cheque moved a step closer yesterday after a poll by Visa UK found cheque payments accounted for just 2% of all retail turnover in 2006.
The poll of 800 people also found just 6% of shoppers paid for their goods by cheque, while one sixth did not use their cheque book at all.
Yesterday, high street chemist Boots stopped cheque payments after it found they accounted for 0.1% of transactions.
