340 million payment smart cards

The Smart Payment Association (SPA) says that over 340 million payment smart cards were shipped in 2006 worldwide, most of which complied with EMV. The members of the smart card industry body are Gemalto, Giesecke & Devrient, Oberthur Card Systems and Sagem Orga.
