Germany: Online advertising market up in 2006

BVDW, the association of the digital industry, is expecting the online advertising market to expand to EUR 2.5bn (US$ 3.27bn) in 2007 after it grew by 85% to more than EUR 1.9bn (US$ 2.49bn) in 2006 compared to 2005. The search engine advertising segment accounted for an estimated EUR 850mn in 2006, up 115% compared to the previous year.
Traditional online advertising climbed by 69% to EUR 900mn and affiliate online advertising by 48% to EUR 155mn. Turnover from e-commerce with private end customers added up to EUR 16.3bn in 2006, up 12% compared to 2005. Agencies and multimedia services providers posted on average a turnover rise of 18% in 2006.
