In an interview with Le Journal des Télécoms, CEO of Virgin Mobile France, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux stated that 50% of the group's clients opt for contracts and 50% for ready-to-go solutions. He added that the group should exceed 1mn clients in 2008, an objective initially expected to be attained in mid-2009. Around one third of its clients have never had a mobile before and two thirds migrate from other operators.
Bézieux said that the group's policy is "under 35 years old, under EUR 35 (US$ 51.38) per month". The group is therefore not interested in offering the Apple iPhone, as the cost of the terminal is too high for its target clientele. He stated that Virgin Mobile focuses on client service to distinguish it from the competition.
It will soon open a second call centre in France to offer a better service. Bézieux claimed that one reason for the creation of the association Alternative Mobile is that Virgin did not feel entirely represented by mobile operator association AFOM. In addition, the government wanted a speaker representing MVNOs. To be a member of Alternative Mobile, a company must be less than 50% of its capital in the hands of a mobile operator. Bézieux said that the group will lobby so that the period required for number portability, currently at ten days, is reduced to between one and two days.
